and plasmonic devices, and how to create structures applicable to

devices as diverse as high efficiency solar cells, magnetic storage,

and wireless bandpass filters. The unique properties of graphene

extend the ability of engineers to design devices in the far infrared

and terahertz regions where silicon technology becomes ineffective

and alternative technologies are prohibitively expensive. Solan’s

fabrication technology uses the existing toolset that manufacturers

possess with only minor modification.

Solan’s IP can be applied to catalytically deposited layers, lift-off

graphene structures deposited on copper that is subsequently

removed, and even newer techniques such as roll-to-roll atomic

layer deposition.

Solan’s technology allows us to put together these building blocks

to make new electronic and optoelectronic components. Using

standard semiconductor processing and graphene deposition

techniques we can make semiconducting ribbon structures on

silicon, glass or other platforms that can be used to develop a

range of devices to eventually be integrated on silicon or on the

semiconductor package or even the circuit board.

Design issues are vitally important, and Solan, with its design

and fabrication facilities in Utah and at partners across the USA,

will work with licensees and their design teams to accelerate the

production of prototype and pre-commercial devices. Solan is

already working with discrete component manufacturers, system

integrators and original equipment manufacturers based in the

USA and Asia and would like to develop business arrangements

in Europe.

Solan is working with leading companies to design and develop

these components as described above and will make the

technology available through licensing worldwide on an exclusive

or non-exclusive basis.
